Born and raised in Hawaii, Troy’s musical roots run deep, nurtured by his Filipino family’s love for music. “I grew up in a very musical family,” Troy recounted. “My sister and I sang all over Waikiki, performing at parties, debuts, and even funerals.”
After moving to Los Angeles, Troy’s path in the music industry was paved with determination and passion. “My journey began with small auditions that accumulated over the years,” he said. It was his collaboration with the legendary David Foster that became a pivotal moment in his career. “Working with David Foster opened many doors for me. He introduced me to artists like Andrea Bocelli and Seal,” Troy shared, reflecting on the significant impact of this mentorship.
Esmeralda was keen to know what ignited Troy’s passion for music. “It started when I was six and discovered the piano,” he revealed. “I fell in love with the instrument, and music became our way of life.” This early love for music was nurtured by his family, with his mom as their “stage mom” and his dad a musician.
Troy’s impressive portfolio includes working as the musical director for Ariana Grande, a role he cherishes. “Working with Ariana Grande at the Grammys was a dream come true,” he said, highlighting one of the many memorable experiences in his career.
As the conversation turned to his latest project, “Harana: An East Meets West Live Experience,” Troy’s excitement was noticeable. “Harana means serenade. I wanted to create a concert that celebrated both my American upbringing and Filipino heritage,” he explained. This concert is set to bridge cultures and genres, featuring a stellar lineup of artists such as Martin Nievera, Pia Toscano, Loren Allred, Morissette Amon, Jay-R, Dessa Salazar, Wendy Moten, Josefina Silveyra, The Fat City Horn, and Justin Klunk.

Growing up, there was little representation for Filipino musicians, which made it challenging,” Troy said. Troy’s passion and perseverance have driven him to overcome numerous challenges. “I love my craft and want to succeed to make a difference in the industry,” he stated. His dreams extend beyond personal success; he aspires to leave a lasting legacy in the world of music. “I’d love to win a Grammy with OPM (Original Pilipino Music.) I want to make a lasting impact on Filipino music and leave a legacy that my family and fellow Filipinos can be proud of.”
The most rewarding aspect of putting together Harana? “Bringing people together and celebrating different cultures and music genres,” Troy said with a smile. “It’s rewarding to see the gravity of what we’re trying to achieve with Harana.”
